Practical year in the Department of Anaesthesiology
Teaching events
Daily:
- Ward rounds in the intensive care unit and high-dependency unit
- Case discussion as part of premedication.
- Supervised training in the induction and conduct of anaesthesia and in postoperative care
- Supervised training in orotracheal intubation, placement of indwelling venous cannulas, invasive monitoring and practical instruction in airway management
- Monitoring in the department’s recovery room
- Participation in night shifts with time off in lieu
- Internal training event on selected topics in anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, pain therapy and emergency medicine.
- Practical year teaching session (six-monthly schedule).
Ways to take part
- Training events of the University of Freiburg, Institute of Anaesthesiology, 1 hour per week
- Regional training sessions at the Ärztehaus Freiburg, every 6 to 8 weeks, one hour each
- Regular participation in departmental resuscitation drills
- In-house training series "DIAK"
Training on specialised medical equipment
- Anaesthesia machines: GE Aysis
- Monitors: GE B650, GE Transport Pro
- Intracardiac ECG lead for catheter positioning
- Blood gas analyser: Siemens Rapidlab 1265
- BIS monitoring to monitor the depth of anaesthesia
- Video laryngoscope to guide orotracheal intubation
