Nursing training with us – this is where you will flourish!

Our school logo says it all – we offer modern training to become a female nurse (Pflegefachfrau) or a male nurse (Pflegefachmann), in which you matter and you are at the centre!

With our training you can work internationally in all kinds of care settings. In a hospital, but also in a children's hospital, in a hospice, in care homes for older people, in home care services, in rehabilitation clinics and in many other places.

Our generalist professional qualification is the route into every field of nursing!

  • Our training concept is based on current knowledge in nursing science and related disciplines.
  • At the same time, we have many years of experience – our school has existed for 100 years.
  • Our training is individual. If you wish, you can complement it with a parallel degree programme. And you have many choices in your practical training!
  • We are diverse! Our learners are of different ages and have different educational backgrounds or previous experience.
  • Very important: we work in small classes with a maximum of 20 learners. We have time and space for each and every one of you!
  • Our dedicated team of five nursing teachers and around 20 lecturers goes the extra mile for you!
  • Nursing matters to us. That is why it needs practice-oriented, modern, comprehensive and well-founded training!
  • Together with our cooperation partners, we have created an attractive training network
  • Ask around – the "Diakoniekrankenhaus" stands for good training!

For the bachelor’s degree programme APPLIED NURSING SCIENCE (Angewandte Pflegewissenschaft), you also need a confirmed study place from the Katholische Hochschule Freiburg.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us on 0761 1301-9600 (office).

Open school

With us, you learn in a pleasant and personal atmosphere.
We respect you as a partner. Your experiences, questions and commitment matter to us. We ensure a good school climate. Our learners take responsible part in numerous decisions. And they always have a contact person with us. Our doors are always open to them.

School as a place of learning

Our school's own curriculum focuses on selected learning situations with practice-oriented content. In these, we combine nursing, medical and other aspects into one overarching topic. Our learning situations build on each other in complexity, so that you can gradually expand your skills.

Through the use of a wide variety of methods and time for revision, you will achieve your training goals with enjoyment and success. The modern facilities of our school help you with this. In the media library you will find extensive learning materials, and all lesson materials are digitally accessible in our cloud.

Learning in practice

The focus of our training is on nursing in hospital. With its recognised high standards, our hospital, with its departments of

  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Anaesthesiology / Intensive Care Medicine
  • Gynaecology / Obstetrics

offers ideal conditions for practice-oriented training.

You will get to know hospital nursing on the wards and, if you wish, also

  • in the outpatient clinics
  • in the operating theatre
  • in anaesthesia
  • in the intensive care unit
  • in the endoscopy department
  • in discharge management

Further placements in outpatient care, care of older people and in a psychiatric facility are also part of the training. For this purpose, we have formed a cooperation network with the Evang. Sozialstation Freiburg, our Gerontopsychiatrisches Pflegezentrum Landwasser (gerontopsychiatric care centre) and our rehabilitation facility for young people, Haus Landwasser.

Learning in practice is of very special importance. There is no more immediate way to learn nursing than through direct contact. At every placement, experienced practice instructors will help you. With our learning tools, developed individually by the school and the practice settings, we provide practical training that is recognised as being of high quality.

Philosophy

For us, our hospital's mission statement is not an empty phrase but a programme. Nurses are close to people and therefore need a high level of professional competence.

For us, this includes:

Cognitive competence
with comprehensive, evidence-based and up-to-date specialist knowledge in all areas of knowledge required for individual nursing care.

Linguistic and communicative competence
as the ability to communicate constructively and as equals with patients and relatives, with team colleagues and with other professional groups.

Moral competence
in order to assess nursing situations according to ethical standards and to act responsibly towards other people.

Psychomotor competence
with comprehensive practical skills in order to provide person-centred care to patients.

Emotional competence
in order to perceive and express feelings in oneself and in other people.

With these competences, you can experience professional nursing as a modern profession in all its fields of work.

Pay and other benefits

The training allowance is governed by the TVöD collective agreement and currently amounts to the following gross monthly sums:
in the 1st year of training € 1415,69
in the 2nd year of training € 1477,07
in the 3rd year of training € 1578,38
In addition, there are supplements, e.g. for work on Sundays or public holidays, an attractive company supplementary pension scheme with the EZVK in Darmstadt and, on application, capital-forming benefits (vermögenswirksame Leistungen).
