For Parents

Maternity ward

We have been certified as a Baby-Friendly Hospital since 2003. This means that both in the delivery suite and on the maternity ward we work in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of the WHO and UNICEF and give special support to the first moments of getting to know each other and to closeness between parents and child.

You can be with your baby around the clock and are involved in your baby’s care from the very beginning. We try to organise the routine procedures on the maternity ward so that this special bonding phase and your personal rhythm with your baby can remain as undisturbed as possible.

Visiting hours on the maternity ward
  • General visiting hours: 15.00 – 19.00.
  • Midday rest period: 13.00 – 15.00
  • Outside this midday rest period, fathers/partners and siblings are always very welcome from 08.00 - 19.00.

After the birth: postnatal care

Bonding

Bonding is direct skin-to-skin contact between parents and baby and lies at the heart of our work on the maternity ward. It gives your baby a strong sense of security and comfort. You get to know each other with all your senses, thereby fostering the social bond. We recommend that you enjoy and make use of skin-to-skin contact during the first days and beyond. It is an important foundation for your baby's development and a helpful way to achieve a relaxed breastfeeding period.

Postnatal care at home

Some of our midwives offer freelance postnatal care at home. The costs of postnatal care are covered by your health insurance fund.

Breastfeeding

Breast milk is the natural and, according to scientific evidence, also the best food for infants. We, the staff of the maternity ward, support you around the clock in the first days of breastfeeding, so that you can relax and enjoy your time at home as a well-coordinated team.

Even if you do not wish to or cannot breastfeed your baby, you are in good hands with us. We will show you how to bottle-feed your baby in a way that promotes bonding, so that your child can experience warmth and security.

Information on the various topics that may interest you as parents before the birth, during your stay or after the birth can be found in our information library.

Breastfeeding advice

Our entire team has received extensive training so that we can offer all women who wish to breastfeed optimal support in starting breastfeeding and throughout the breastfeeding period. Several members of staff are qualified lactation consultants (IBCLC).

For acute breastfeeding and breast problems, you can reach us 24 hours a day on the breastfeeding hotline: 0761 1301-2439

We also offer breastfeeding consultation appointments through the parent school. Further information is available here or via the parent school’s contact details (e-mail: elternschule@diak-fr.de, telephone: 0761 1301-2477).
