Minimally invasive thyroid surgery
In this surgical method (ABBA = Axillo-Bilateral-Breast-Approach), the thyroid operation is performed through a 3 cm incision in the area of the front of the armpit and two 5 mm incisions in the chest area (cosmetically most favourable at the edge of the nipple).
This surgical method provides an excellent view of the thyroid gland and of the vascular and nerve structures (including intraoperative neuromonitoring of the vocal cord nerve) and leaves no disfiguring scars at all on the neck.
The operation is particularly suitable for women and is an option for most thyroid conditions.
