Anti-reflux surgery

Anti-reflux surgery

Once conservative treatment has been exhausted, surgical therapy may be considered, particularly in the presence of so-called "volume reflux", which as a rule cannot be controlled with acid-suppressing medication.

Because reflux disease has multifactorial causes, the indication for surgery must be established strictly by specialists. In our reflux board, following comprehensive assessment, conservative and surgical treatment options are carefully weighed up on an interdisciplinary basis. We offer various common and well-proven surgical procedures, which can also be combined. Together with you, we select the procedure that is right for you.

The surgical methods aim to restore the original anatomy and/or function of the lower oesophageal sphincter and are performed laparoscopically as standard.

Dissected hiatal hernia

Closure of the hiatus hernia

Semi-fundoplication

The classic surgical treatment option is fundoplication performed using minimally invasive techniques. Any existing hiatal hernia is closed and a cuff is formed around the oesophagus from parts of the stomach wall. After more than 25 years of experience with laparoscopic fundoplication, we prefer a so-called “anterior Dor fundoplication” – in this procedure, a fold of the stomach wall is placed around the front wall of the oesophagus (see figures 1, 2, 3).
