When medicine is no longer able to cure and life expectancy is limited, we do everything we can to maintain the highest possible quality of life for our patients. Our multiprofessional palliative care team offers not only interdisciplinary help to relieve physical symptoms, but also support and assistance with psychological, social and spiritual concerns.
Our shared goal is to stabilise patients to the point where, with appropriate outpatient care, they can return to their familiar home environment and spend as much time there as possible.
The dignity, well-being and preservation of our patients’ quality of life are at the heart of everything we do. Everything that is meaningful and possible is done to achieve this. Pain, breathlessness, nausea and other symptoms are relieved, and team members can offer support with problems and worries and try to find solutions.
Alongside anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, emergency medicine and pain therapy, palliative medicine is the fifth pillar of the specialty of anaesthesiology. Accordingly, several doctors in the Department of Anaesthesiology now hold the additional qualification in palliative medicine and work closely with the hospital’s Department of Internal Medicine in this field.
