For Parents
Appointment request: registration for birth in the midwife-led delivery suite

Dear parents-to-be,
Women with an uncomplicated pregnancy and no relevant pre-existing conditions have the option of giving birth in the midwife-led delivery suite (Hebammenkreißsaal, HKS).
Registration is possible from the 24th week of pregnancy with an unremarkable OGTT. Registration involves two appointments:
- an initial appointment by telephone
- a second appointment at the Diakoniekrankenhaus
Requirements for a birth in the HKS:
- Singleton pregnancy in cephalic (head-down) presentation
- Duration of pregnancy between 37+0 and 41+3 weeks
-
no previous caesarean birth
In the case of certain special circumstances, an individual decision can be made on a case-by-case basis after medical assessment.
Care in the HKS is provided by the midwives on duty as trusting one-to-one care. During the birth, the attending midwife is supported by a second midwife.
Should complications arise during pregnancy or birth, should there be an increased need for pain relief, or should a gynaecological assessment be required, a gynaecologist and the anaesthesia team are available at all times.
